Join us for the Nevis Historical Tour


Join the History of the Caribbean class on an Historical Tour of Nevis!
Saturday, November 10th.

Meet at Port Zante at 7:45 a.m.[taking the 8:00 a.m. ferry to Nevis]

Below is an itinerary of the tour, chockfull of historical sites, conducted by Mr. John Guilbert, an official of the Nevis Historical Society.
Starting with a walk to the Museum of Nevis History, then around Charlestown, after which we board the bus for a three-hour tour around the island. At 1 p.m. the tour will be over and you’ll be free to do whatever you wish in Nevis (there are some famous eating places, and of course, there is the 4 Seasons Hotel). Bring a hat, sunblock, good walking shoes, camera and bathing/snorkeling equipment [as you wish].

COSTS:
Ferry to Nevis and back $40 EC [pay directly to the ferry]
Tour $25 EC each [NOTE: space on bus is limited ~ first come first served]Interested? please come by my office ASAP with tour fee to reserve your spot for this wonderful opportunity to get to know the real Nevis.

TOUR SCHEDULE:

Arrive Nevis @8:45am met by John Guilbert at the pier.
Walk to the Museum of Nevis History where John Guilbert will give you a tour of the museum, which is the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton (face on US$10 bill).
We will next do a small walking tour through parts of Charlestown, returning to the museum by 10:00 to get on our bus.
The bus tour will include:

Government House
Marriage location of Nelson
Montpelier
Hermitage - oldest wood framed house in Caribbean, 1778
Old Manor - plantation for breeding slaves
St. George's Anglican Church
Golden Rock - plantation & slave infirmary
Fothergill's - old -time Nevisian village
New River & Coconut Walk - last working sugar mill in Nevis
Eden Brown - ghost story
St. James's Anglican - location of Black crucifix
Nisbet - birthplace of Fanny, Horatio's wife
Redoubt - 3rd permanent structure built by Europeans
Cottle's Church - first church where slaves and slave owners worshipped together
Oualie Beach or Mansa's for break
Fort Ashby & Jamestown
Nelson Spring
St. Thomas Anglican - oldest church, 1643
Back to Charlestown by 1:00pm
